Project summary
Cultural heritage within Iraq has suffered degradation as a result of the first and second Gulf Wars. Looting of the old Basrah Museum led to its closure in 2003.
This project aimed to develop the new Basrah Museum as a heritage resource centre within Basrah, housing the British Institute for the Study of Iraq’s library collection.
Three galleries in the new Basrah Museum were completed, providing a secure and well-managed environment for the display and storage of cultural heritage.
