Project summary
Built heritage in As-Samou’ was at risk due to its location on the edge of the West Bank surrounded by Israeli settlements.
This project documented, conserved and adapted for re-use, vernacular built heritage to address severe conflict damage in the town in Palestine.
Training was provided for young apprentices and labourers and heritage training was also delivered for ten young heritage professionals.
Interpretation of heritage in As Samou' was improved as cultural tourist itineraries were developed in the historic centre, directional signage was installed and interpretation panels were erected in Arabic and English.
The team also delivered education activities within the local community such as guided tours of the historic centre and traditional architecture workshops.
