Project summary

This project trained young Syrians and Jordanians in traditional Levantine craftsmanship skills such as mother-of-pearl inlay, woodcarving, carpentry and wood mosaic. The project mapped and documented these four practices.

Displacement of Syrian artisans as well as lack of infrastructure and equipment has endangered aspects of these practices and transmission of these crafts and skills. The project provided training to artisans in preserving, transmitting, and practising their heritage.
