Project summary

The genocidal campaign by Daesh against the Yazidis has already had a significant impact on Yazidi musical heritage.

Displacement of the Yazidis from their ancestral homeland in northern Iraq has damaged the oral, religious and musical heritage of Yazidism.

Guided by the Yazidi Spiritual Council, this project developed a teaching programme for Yazidis residing in displacement camps of northern Iraq. The project recorded over one hundred traditional songs and established a Yazidi women’s choir at Khanke camp.
