BAFTA-winning history broadcaster and best-selling writer Dan Snow, Her Royal Highness Princess Dana of Jordan, President of the Board of Directors of Petra National Trust and Hilary McGrady – Director General of the National Trust for England, Wales and Northern Ireland have been announced as keynote speakers for Facing Change: Jordan 2024, a conference which will take place in Amman, Jordan from 2-5 December.
Organised jointly by INTO (the International National Trusts Organisation), the Cultural Protection Fund and Petra National Trust, the conference will explore how heritage organisations are facing the challenges of adapting to our changing climate, to conflict and threats to intangible and tangible cultural heritage, and to finding the resources they need.
Bringing together experts in heritage and climate from across the world, the conference will showcase projects from across the Middle East and Africa, to explore:
• Heritage resilience in challenging environments
• Showcasing inspirational leadership and the INTO Heritage Leaders programme
• Inclusive Heritage: How organisations are making cultural and natural heritage relevant and accessible to all
INTO, the British Council’s Cultural Protection Fund and the Petra National Trust are supporting projects in Jordan, the region and across the world. They will share their learnings and inspiration with the conference delegates, who can use this valuable knowledge to make an impact in their own heritage and climate work.
Catherine Leonard, Secretary General, INTO:
‘We are excited to be working with the Cultural Protection Fund and Petra National Trust on this important conference for INTO and everyone working at the interface between heritage and climate. It is vital for us to bring together our members and the sector to spend time focussed on learning, networking and gaining inspiration from like-minded people. Together we can become a movement of people who care about nature and culture and are inspired to celebrate and protect it.’
Stephanie Grant, Director, Cultural Protection Fund:
‘The Facing Change conference will be an excellent opportunity for our Cultural Protection Fund grantees to meet with INTO members and other heritage professionals to exchange ideas and knowledge. It is a privilege to work in partnership with INTO and Petra National Trust as we have the same mission to protect and celebrate heritage and make it accessible to all.
